If you've been lusting after a full-frame mirrorless camera, but thought you couldn't afford one, it's time to reconsider. That's because the new Canon EOS RP is significantly less expensive than other full-frame mirrorless cameras, yet boasts an impressive array of advanced features, robust...

Canon EOS RP Mirrorless Camera Body With EF Adapter EOSRPB-AD review

Canon’s entry-level full-frame mirrorless does a lot to appeal to enthusiast photographers, says Andy Westlake, but some might find it over-simplified

Streamlined; easy-to-use control layout with plenty of customisation; Well-integrated touchscreen interface; Compatible with EF-mount SLR lenses via supplied adapter; Fully-articulated screen affords extra compositional flexibility; Streamlined; easy-to-use control layout with plenty of...

No in-body image stabilisation; Over-simplified controls; Viewfinder visibility is poor in bright light; No in-body image stabilisation; Over-simplified controls; Viewfinder visibility is poor in bright light

Canon EOS RP review

These past six months have been some of the most eventual in recent memory when it comes to new photography kit. With three new mirrorless systems, all bearing full-frame fruits, a market that Sony has up until now had (almost) had to itself is now set to become a whole lot more vibrant.

Compact and light body; Very good value for money; Generous buffer - better than quoted; Very good AF performance; Responsive touchscreen

Limited native lens selection; Rolling shutter and crop in 4K video; Slightly sensitive metering system; No sensor-based image stabilization; Underwhelming battery life; Silent shooting very limited

Canon EOS RP review

While its competitors are going to great pains to create increasingly advanced – and increasingly expensive – high end full-frame mirrorless cameras, Canon is catering to crop sensor consumers who are looking for a full-frame option that won't break their back or their bank balance.

Svelte; lightweight body; Fully articulating screen; 4K video; Aggressively priced

Body feels small for big RF lenses; Loses the R's sensor shutter; 1.6x crop + no Dual Pixel AF in 4K; Miserly battery life

Canon EOS RP review

Canon seem to be gunning for those who want all the glitz and glamour of a full-frame mirrorless camera on a budget. We’re impressed that by making very clever compromises from the EOS R, this little rock star packs a hell of a punch with clever software tricks, an incredible user interface so that really anyone can pick it up and work out what to do. Where a camera of this spec might’ve intimidated a newbie, the minimal design, excellent touch screen, WiFi and Bluetooth compatibility, it’s no longer something reserved for camera boffins. For the accessibility and affordability, we're sold.

Alas, we aren't being treated to Canon's high end EOS R camera, but with the Canon EOS RP we're getting a pretty interesting candidate in the mix. The Canon EOS RP is being aggressively priced at $1,299 and has the same sensor at the heart of the Canon 6D Mk II.
