Canon RF 24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM Review

The Canon RF 24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM ($299.99) joins the RF lens library as the smallest, cheapest zoom with full-frame coverage. It's Canon's version of a lens we've already seen for Nikon cameras, the Nikkor Z 24-50mm F4-6.3, and it shares many qualities, both good and bad. The compact design and stabilized optics are nice touches for sure, but the restrictive zoom range and dim maximum aperture ultimately limit its potential. For just $100 more, we recommend the RF 24-105mm F4-7.1 IS STM ($399) for its greater versatility and better macro capabilities.A Small Lens With a Short Zoom Range The RF 24-50mm is one of the smallest zooms you can find for a full-frame camera, a result of its modest zoom range, limited light-gathering capability, and retractable design. At just 2.3 by 2.7 inches (HD) and 7.4 ounces, it's easy to slide into a camera bag where it won't weigh you down. The inner barrel telescopes out by a little more than an inch before it can take a photo. The 13.9-ounce ...

The Canon RF 24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM might be the lightest and most affordable zoom for full-frame EOS R cameras, but it doesn't offer much range or make particularly special images.

Easy-to-carry design; Handy on-lens control ring; Stabilized optics; Quiet, responsive autofocus

Narrow maximum aperture limits use in dim light; Short zoom range; Plastic lens mount

Canon RF f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens review

Slightly better cameras but otherwise, not much of an update - buy the iPhone 14 Pro or switch to Android instead

Better low-light photography, Slightly longer battery life, Action mode gives super stabilised video

The same performance as the iPhone 13, No Dynamic Island or Always-On display, 60Hz screen

Canon RF f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens review

The iPhone 14 comes to market with the same launch price as the previous generation. At the same time, iPhone connoisseurs were more than disillusioned after the presentation of the new smartphone. Apple leaves large parts of the hardware unchanged and does not dare to change the design.

Top performance level despite last year's chip, Very high quality workmanship, Improved image and video quality, Excellent battery life

Hardly any innovations, Charging takes too long for 2022

Canon RF f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens review

A slight camera upgrade, new emergency features, and... not a whole lot else

Better selfie camera, Good battery life, Crash detection and satellite SOS are neat

It’s more like an iPhone 13S, Display is still 60Hz, eSIM transition will be easy for most but painful for some

Canon RF f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens review

It’s a great handset, but the improvements are so iterative that most of you will hardly notice what’s new.

Action mode offers truly superb video stabilization. eSIM makes it easy to switch phones (with other iPhones). Satellite SOS and Crash Detection add peace of mind.

Many of the specs remain the same as on the iPhone 13. Small battery gains. Photonic Engine isn’t as revolutionary as suggested.

Canon RF f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens review

The Apple iPhone 14 isn’t a huge upgrade on the iPhone 13, yet it still is a great phone with a top camera, good battery life and all the iOS benefits.

Clever safety features, Very good battery life, Reliable camera, Fun colours, You’ve got an ageing iPhone: If you’re on an iPhone 11 or older, then the changes here will make a notable difference.

Stuck on a 60Hz display, Minimal differences to the iPhone 13, You’ve got an iPhone 13: The changes from Apple’s previous phone aren’t enough to warrant an upgrade this year.

Canon RF f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens review

The Apple iPhone 14 is no match for the just-released iPhone 14 Pro, but if you ignore that, it’s one of the most effective phones around.

Great cameras, front and back, Fast performance, Good battery life, Innovative safety features

Design too familiar, Some average features

Canon RF f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens review

“The iPhone 14 isn't a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor. But with a great design, screen, performance, and cameras, that's far from a bad thing at all.”

Comfortable, high-end build, OLED screen looks fantastic, A15 chip performs great, Good camera upgrades, Dependable battery life, Helpful safety features

60Hz display, No telephoto camera, eSIM might be a pain for some

Canon RF f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens review

The iPhone 14 isn’t much of an upgrade over the iPhone 13, but it’s still a great device and an upgrade for anyone coming from the iPhone 11 or older.

Great camera, Good battery, Emergency features are cool, Still excellent performance

Display could use some upgrades
